Our Program:

Zimmerman School House will be opening and registering children just in time for the 2008-2009 school year.

Our mission is to provide a safe, clean, stimulating environment that includes parents, teachers, and therapist in their children’s education.  Teachers and specialists work together to help reach each child’s goals with innovated equipment and technology.  We pride ourselves on provided the social interaction that our children need.  However, we still strive to meet every child’s individual needs.  Individual education plans are to encompass school readiness skills, daily living skills, social and emotional skill; as well as, speech therapy, occupation therapy, physical therapy, and/or applied behavior if needed.  At Zimmerman School House, we believe in children learning through fun, loving, positive experiences that are reinforced through repetition and everyday practices.

This is a small private facility that caters to families and children with special needs, 3-10 years of age.  We have a gym for fun filled activities along with a large classroom that is center based with monthly themes.  Our main focus is to allow these children to learn in a loving, fun filled environment that targets all of the necessary areas of development.   Crucial areas of development to consider are communication, creativity, cognitive, physical development, and social and emotional interactions.  Some of these skills come easier than others but they are all just as important.  We believe it is also pertinent to get to know each child and family in order to accurately design a program that will allow your child to succeed.  Children learn best through play; therefore, we are constantly building skills through games and activities.  The children will inadvertently learn routines, independence, and following directions through repetition and positive reinforcement.

We also enjoy spending time on feeding, and self-help skills that some children with special needs lack, but again these skills are just as vital.  Throughout the day and throughout our center we have communication devices that help non-verbal children express themselves appropriately.  We are creating a smaller world to help prepare your children for the bigger world.

We are a very family friendly center especially since our director is a mom of a special needs child too.  She understands the importance in family, teachers, and therapists working as a team.  Parents are the real teachers who children learn best from but it is hard for one person to do it all by themselves.  Therefore, we encourage parents to volunteer at Zimmerman School House; we also have an open door policy for family members anytime and any day.  We are here for the children and we all work together to reach the children’s goals.

Registration will include an evaluation, an annual goal meeting with parents and staff, and paperwork neccessary for the Florida Department of Education.
